The TER F201110001 is a cross limit switch built for crane and hoist end of travel protection. Two 200mm rods project from the body in a cross pattern, so the switch is operated when the crane structure or a fixed stop pushes a rod as the machine reaches the end of its run. Each rod swings up to 180 degrees, giving detection in both directions of travel from one unit.

The four positions are maintained, which is the critical difference from a spring return switch. Once a rod is pushed over, the contacts stay in that state rather than snapping back the moment the pressure is released. On a crane that means the stop signal holds while the machine coasts, instead of clearing itself halfway through the deceleration.

Contacts are two normally closed pairs arranged in a staggered sequence, so one opens before the other rather than both breaking at the same instant. That staggered action is what allows a two stage stop: the first contact slows the drive, the second cuts it. On a loaded hoist that two stage approach avoids the shock loading a single hard stop would put through the rope and structure.

Built to EN 60204-1 and EN 60947-5-1 with IP67 sealing, Class II insulation and an operating range from minus 53 to plus 80 degrees Celsius, it is specified for outdoor gantries, port equipment and anywhere the switch sits exposed. TER manufactures it in Italy, and it carries CE and EAC marking.

Common Applications

Overhead travelling crane end of travel limits, gantry and portal crane long travel stops, hoist trolley cross travel protection, port and shipyard lifting equipment, steel mill and foundry cranes, outdoor material handling gantries, and any lifting machine that needs a mechanical stop signal independent of the drive controller.

Choosing the Right Crane Limit Switch

Contact arrangement is what usually decides between models, since it sets how the stop behaves. This unit uses two staggered NC contacts for a two stage stop. The cross rod crane limit switch PF33750100 from the same TER range gives 1NO plus 1NC instead, so one contact can signal a controller or lamp while the other breaks the drive. It is IP65 rather than IP67 and costs less, which suits sheltered indoor installations.

For lighter duty end of travel work away from cranes, the Auspicious range is far more economical. The big wheel limit switch AZ-5108L and the ball limit switch AZ-5109 both offer IP67 sealing at 10A, while the lever limit switch AZ-7120 and the roller plunger limit switch AM-1308 cover machine and conveyor duty. Where an overrun could snap a rigid actuator, the spring limit switch AZ-8166 flexes instead.

Crane control usually needs an operator station too, so see the pendant station, foot switch and control boxes range. Browse the full 10A limit switch and pull cord switch collection or the wider limit and micro switches category.

FAQ,s

What is a cross limit switch?

It is a limit switch with rods projecting from the body in a cross pattern. As a crane or hoist reaches the end of its travel, part of the structure pushes a rod, and the switch operates to stop the drive.

What does maintained mean on this switch?

Maintained means the contacts stay in their operated state after the rod is pushed over, instead of springing back. On a crane that keeps the stop signal active while the machine decelerates.

Why are the contacts staggered?

So they do not break at the same moment. The first contact opens to slow the drive and the second cuts it, giving a two stage stop that avoids shock loading on the rope and structure.

What does 1NC plus 1NC mean?

Both contacts are normally closed, meaning they are closed during normal running and open when a rod is operated. A broken wire has the same effect as a trip, so the circuit fails safe.

Is it suitable for outdoor cranes?

Yes. With the specified M20 cable gland it achieves IP67, meaning fully dust tight and protected against temporary immersion, and it operates from minus 53 to plus 80 degrees Celsius.

How often can it operate?

Up to 3600 maneuvers per hour, which covers continuous duty on a busy lifting installation.
